Palm Spings House Painting Costs
The calculator above gives you an instant estimate for painting your home. Use it before you read anything else. Put in your square footage, pick your service, and you will have a number in seconds.
This guide explains what goes into that number, what is included in our pricing, and what to watch out for when comparing quotes from different contractors.
Why Painting Quotes Vary So Much
If you have gotten more than one painting quote, you already know this: the numbers can be all over the place.
One contractor quotes you $4,000. Another quotes $9,000. And you have no idea what the difference actually is.
Here is why that happens.
Most contractors give you a bottom-line number without explaining what is in it. Some bids include prep work, trim, and detail work. Others are walls only. Some include two coats of paint. Others assume one. Some quotes include caulking, patching, and priming. Others expect you to handle that separately.
When you are comparing quotes side by side, you are often not comparing the same job.
Our pricing includes prep work, trim, and detailed work that most contractors charge extra for. That is true for both interior and exterior jobs. You will see exactly what that means as you read through this page.
What the Painting Calculator Is Actually Measuring
The calculator at the top of this page estimates your cost based on your home's livable square footage. It divides that space into the areas that typically need painting and applies a rate based on the complexity of each space.
Bathrooms and kitchens take more time per square foot than bedrooms. That is built into the estimate.
The ceiling option increases the calculation because ceilings add real surface area and more labor.
For exterior, the number of stories matters because two-story homes have more surface area to cover and require more equipment and setup time.
The estimate is not a locked quote. Every home is different. But it gives you a real, honest starting point so you know what to expect before anyone walks through your door.
What Is Included in Our Interior Painting Price
A lot of contractors quote you walls only and then add charges for everything else at the end. We do not do that.
Here is what our interior price includes:
Paint & Coverage Up to 2 coats of paint on all walls. Full color change is included. You do not pay extra to go from one color to another.
Prep Work Standard surface prep is part of every job. That means patching, sanding, and cleaning surfaces before a single drop of paint goes on. We fill nail holes, do spot priming, and handle minor caulking on cracks and gaps. Light drywall repair is included.
Trim & Detail Work Baseboards, door frames, window trim, crown molding if present, and interior doors are all part of the job. A lot of contractors charge extra for trim. We do not.
Vaulted Ceilings If your home has vaulted ceilings and you select the ceiling option, that is included in the price. We do not treat vaulted ceilings as a surprise add-on.
Protection Floors and furniture are protected before we start. That is standard.
What Is Not Included — InteriorKitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities are not included in our standard pricing. These require a separate inspection because the scope varies a lot from home to home. Major drywall repair and texture work also fall outside of our standard scope.
What Is Included in Our Exterior Painting Price
Desert homes take a beating. Sun, heat, wind, and UV exposure wear down exterior paint faster here than in most parts of California. That is not an opinion — it is just what happens at 110 degrees.
When we paint the exterior of a home in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, or anywhere in the Coachella Valley, here is what is included in the price:
Paint & Coverage Up to 2 coats of exterior paint. Full coverage of all exterior walls. Color change is included.
Prep Work This is where a lot of contractors cut corners and where we do not. Every exterior job includes pressure washing, scraping peeling paint, sanding rough areas, caulking joints, and spot priming. Skipping these steps is the number one reason exterior paint jobs fail early. We do not skip them.
Trim & Detail Work Fascia, soffits, eaves, window and door trim, and the garage door are all included. These are the details that make a paint job look finished and professional. Most contractors price these separately.
What Is Not Included — Exterior Wood replacement and major structural repairs are not included. If your home has rotted fascia or damaged siding that needs to be replaced before it can be painted, that is handled separately. We will flag anything like that during the inspection.
What Affects Your Final Price
The calculator gives you a solid baseline. But a few things can shift the final number on any job.
Condition of the surfaces. A home that has been repainted recently in good condition takes less prep time. A home that has not been painted in ten years, has peeling paint, cracks throughout, or sun damage will take more prep work. That affects cost.
Access. Two-story homes in La Quinta or Palm Desert with steep rooflines, tight side yards, or areas that are difficult to reach safely take more setup time. That is reflected in the two-story exterior rate.
Color change vs. touch-up. A full color change requires more thorough coverage than touching up existing paint in the same color. Our pricing accounts for full color changes, so you are not caught off guard.
Number of rooms. The calculator uses square footage and the number of bedrooms and bathrooms to estimate interior cost. Homes with the same total square footage can have very different room counts, which affects how the estimate breaks down by space.
If anything about your home falls outside of standard conditions, we will walk through it with you before the job starts. No surprises.
Why Coachella Valley Exterior Paint Fails Faster Than Most
This is worth understanding before you decide how much to invest in a paint job.
The desert is brutal on exterior paint. UV radiation in the Coachella Valley is among the highest in the state. Direct sun exposure breaks down paint film, fades color, and causes paint to peel, crack, and bubble faster than in coastal or northern California climates.
Add to that the dramatic temperature swings between summer days and winter nights, and the expansion and contraction of exterior surfaces puts stress on paint that was applied without proper prep.
This is why prep work matters so much here. A paint job done with proper washing, scraping, priming, and caulking will last significantly longer than one that skips those steps to save time. We have seen homes in Palm Springs and Indio where a low-bid paint job started failing within two years because the surfaces were not properly prepared.
Our exterior prep is thorough by design. It is not a bonus — it is what makes the paint last.
What Most Contractors Charge Extra For
Here is a side-by-side comparison that comes up often when homeowners are getting multiple bids.
Many standard painting quotes include walls only. When you ask about baseboards, they add a line item. When you ask about door frames, that is another charge. Crown molding, interior doors, caulking the window trim — each one adds to the total.
By the time all the real work is priced in, that low quote is not low anymore.
Our pricing includes all of the following as standard:
- Baseboards
- Door frames and window trim
- Crown molding
- Interior doors
- Caulking gaps and cracks
- Nail hole filling
- Spot priming
- Pressure washing (exterior)
- Scraping and sanding (exterior)
- Fascia, soffits, and eaves (exterior)
- Garage door (exterior)
When you use the calculator and get an estimate, that number reflects all of this. There is no separate line to add later.
How to Read Your Estimate From the Calculator
The calculator breaks your estimate into a few different parts.
For interior jobs, you will see a room-by-room breakdown. Bedrooms, bathrooms, living room, kitchen, and hallways are all listed separately. The kitchen and bathrooms have a higher rate per square foot because they are more detailed and time-intensive spaces to paint. That is not a hidden fee — it is just an honest reflection of the work involved.
For exterior jobs, you will see your total square footage and your story multiplier. One-story homes have a 1.5x multiplier applied to the square footage to estimate paintable exterior surface area. Two-story homes use a 2.0x multiplier for the same reason.
If you select both interior and exterior, you will see each total separately and a combined number.
This is an estimate. The final price is confirmed after we see your home in person. But for most standard homes in the Coachella Valley, the calculator is a reliable starting point.
Coachella Valley New Builds: What To Should Know
If you recently purchased a new construction home in Indio, Coachella, or the eastern valley and are painting for the first time, there are a few things worth knowing.
New construction homes often use builder-grade paint. It is usually flat, single-coat paint applied quickly to meet the move-in deadline. It looks fine at first, but it is not durable. Scrubbing a wall to remove a scuff can sometimes remove the paint along with it.
Repainting a new construction home with quality paint and proper prep — two coats, primed, trimmed out fully — is one of the best early investments you can make in your home. It protects the drywall, looks more finished, and holds up better over time.
Our calculator works the same way for new homes as for older ones. Plug in your square footage and get your estimate.
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is the calculator estimate?
For a standard home in normal condition, the estimate is a reliable baseline. Homes that need significant prep work, have difficult access, or have surfaces in poor condition may see the final price adjusted after the onsite inspection. We walk through any differences with you before work begins — nothing changes without your approval.
Does your price really include trim and prep, or is that extra?
It really is included. Baseboards, door frames, window trim, crown molding, caulking, patching, nail hole filling, spot priming, pressure washing on exterior jobs, and fascia and soffits on exterior jobs are all part of our standard scope. We do not add these as line items after the fact.
How long does a full interior and exterior paint job take in Palm Springs?
It depends on the size of the home. A typical 2,000 square foot home painted interior and exterior usually takes between three and five days. Larger homes, homes with more complex trim work, or jobs that require more prep time will take longer. We give you a timeline estimate during the inspection.
Do I need to move furniture before you arrive?
We handle floor and furniture protection as part of every interior job. For larger pieces, it helps to move what you can ahead of time, but we work with what is there. We will walk through the home with you before we start so you know exactly what we are doing and where.
Why are kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities not included?
Cabinet painting is a very different scope of work from wall painting. It requires different prep, different products, different application methods, and significantly more time. The cost and process varies a lot depending on the number of cabinets, the material, and the condition. We handle cabinet painting separately after an onsite evaluation so we can price it accurately.
What happens if my exterior paint is peeling badly or the wood is damaged?
Peeling paint is handled through our standard exterior prep — scraping, sanding, and priming are all included. If there is wood damage or rot that needs to be replaced before the surface can be painted, that is a separate scope of work and will be identified during the inspection. We will never start painting over a surface that is not properly prepared. That would be a short-term job that costs you more in the long run.
